I live here in Berlin with my husband and three kids. Before moving to Berlin, I spent over a decade in Washington, D.C., supporting the development and implementation of U.S. healthcare and health IT regulations. I worked closely with public agencies, policy teams, and technical experts—always with one foot in the world of innovation, and the other in the world of oversight.
Since relocating to Berlin with my family in 2022, I’ve been inspired by the energy, creativity, and ambition of the city’s budding medtech and biotech startup community. And I’ve seen firsthand just how daunting it can be to navigate regulatory systems—especially across both the U.S. FDA and EU MDR frameworks—while also building a product, a company, and a team.
This space exists because I believe founders deserve clarity, not confusion.
Whether you’re building a moderate-risk SaMD, an AI-enabled tool, or something that doesn’t fit neatly into a category, my hope is that these resources help you move faster, ask better questions, and build with confidence.
Welcome again to my site. I’m glad you are here. I look forward to helping you out.
I’ve spent my career researching, writing about, and implementing things to improve health. I started out as a research coordinator enrolling patients in trials at a big teaching hospital. which led me to a PhD program where I studied the canonization of certain clinical and health research methodologies and the general move away from health toward disease in the U.S. (for an example of the research I did back then, see this recent Time Magazine article). This research interest brought me to the National Institutes of Health, where I researched and wrote about gaps in the US research portfolio and tried to engage NIH leadership on how to encompass the social determinants of health and conduct more community-based studies of health and disease.
Then came the Affordable Care Act and the opportunity to assist the U.S. government in implementing potential game changers like pay-for-performance and value-based purchasing in Medicare and Medicaid, along with directing Health IT and information exchange efforts to complement the rapid adoption of EHRs. I spent close to 12 years supporting these efforts; helping the government envision these programs and then roll them out in practical and effective ways.
Once we moved to Berlin, I was able to make a longed-for career pivot into the digital health space – an area that I honestly feel has the most potential on moving the needle on health (still my focus, after all these years). So here I am, offering what I can to the community that I feel has the most to offer to my health and the health of my kids moving forward. I really applaud the work happening in the digital health space, and I am so grateful I get to support it.
